automated alerts when their preorder is going to ship

One thing I would love to see is a way for customers to get automated alerts when their preorder is going to ship, there seems to be no way to inform customers this preorder is not shipped until x and we get a lot of emails of where is my order which is frustrating.

We clearly have it marked as a preorder but maybe some aspect of Flow could be added? so that we could group preorders in an email and notify when the product arrives and is being prepped for shipment.
